CNN has an interesting article "debunking" 25 green myths. I listed a few of the myths below that I found most interesting.

  • Myth: Buying local food is better for the environment.
Reality: It depends on how your food was produced and delivered. CNN Reality
  • Myth: Organic foods are produced without pesticides.
Reality: Organic guidelines need to be tightened up. CNN Reality
  • Myth: I should wait for all my incandescent bulbs to burn out before replacing them with low-energy fluorescents.
Reality: You'd be wasting a lot of money and energy. CNN Reality
  • Myth: Paper grocery bags are better than plastic ones.
Reality: Plastics, young man, plastics. CNN Reality
  • Myth: Driving fewer miles is good for the environment.
Reality: The shortest distance between two points is not always the greenest. CNN Reality

I thought this was the most interesting statistic:

Estimates vary, but it takes as much as 2,100 gallons of water to grow enough cotton -- organic or otherwise -- to produce just one pair of jeans, not including the water used to dye and finish the fabric. view this myth
